每一类活动都会有多种表现形式,比如理解。通常情况下我们要求学生用英语回答问题展示他们的理解,其实如果只是展示理解,学生完全可以用图片、行为表演等,甚至可以用汉语回答。再如推理性活动,可以让学生直接回答What can you infer from...?我们同样可以给出推论让学生选择等。但是,为了适应学习者的多元需求,教材二次开发中有必要设计多层次活动。以《大学英语精读2》Unit 2 Lessons from Jefferson为例,我们可以设计如下推理训练活动。一般教师都会设计Activity 1,但是,我们同样可以给出结论让学生从文章中找证据,还可以给出原文与结论让学生匹配。

Activity 1 Read the text and answer the following questions.

1)How could Jefferson understand the French revolution?

2)What role did the government play in newspaper?

3)How does conflict arise?

4)Are customs useless?

5)Why are common people common?

6)What contribution did Jefferson’s plow make to agriculture?

7)Why does American education owe to Jefferson?

Activity 2 The following are conclusions from the text.Read the text and find supports for each of them.

1.Jefferson insisted on a free press.

2.Lafayette was divorced from the common people.

3.Conflict is inevitable.(www.xing528.com)

4.People have the ability to judge true or false.

5.Not all customs are useless.

6.People tend to be worried by evils that have never happened.

7.Jefferson’s plow didn’t contribute much to agriculture.
