学习英语语法：冠词和语序的用法详解

1.冠词a，an，the

英语中名词经常由冠词引出。冠词的用法比较难掌握，特别是对于母语中没有冠词的中国论文作者尤甚。一般来说，不定冠词“a，an”常用来表示某一类人或事物的整体、某人或某事物，以及数量一（一个人或一件事物），也就是通常所说的“泛指”的人或物。定冠词常表示特定的人或物、世界上独一无二的人或物、前文中已经提到过的人或物，也就是通常说的“特指”的人或物。中国作者最常见的问题是名词前不使用任何冠词，或者“a”“the”不分。例如：

（1）不正确：The dependence of the ultimate tensile strength demonstrates relative small change.

正确：The dependence of the ultimate tensile strength demonstrates a relatively small change.

（2）不正确：The concentrations of active atoms/species depend on temperature and contents of the source agent and the activator.

正确：The concentrations of the active atoms/species depend on the temperature and the contents of the source agent and the activator.

（3）不正确：...progressed with rapid pace...

正确：...progressed with a rapid pace...

（4）不正确：...an university...或...a hour...

正确：...a university...或...an hour...

这是因为，“a”用在辅音音素开头的名词前，而“an”用在元音音素开头的名词前，而并非用在所有元音字母开头的名词前。(www.xing528.com)

2.语序

英语的自然语序是主语在谓语前面，宾语和宾语补语在谓语的后面，状语既可以在谓语的前面，也可以在谓语的后面。有时为了强调句子的某一部分，或由于结构的需要，也可以使用倒装语序。在英语科技论文中要特别注意把作者的主要观点放到句首，以便更明确地向读者强调作者的主题。中国作者出于习惯往往把目的、地点、时间、原因等状语先放在句首，然后引出要说明的主题。这样的描述不仅不够直接，有时还可能削弱了要说明的主题的重要性。例如：

（1）不合适：we very recently found...

正确：very recently we found.../we found very recently...

（2）不合适：Based on theoretical analyses，this paper explores possible methods for preventing failure of quenchants.

正确：This paper explores possible methods for preventing failure of quenchants，based on theoretical analyses.

（3）不合适：If we know the value of the highest stress at some part of the workpieces being larger than the tensile stress（σs）in some cooling rate，this cooling rate or above should be avoided in the design of ATQ technology.

正确：Cooling rates leading to a stress higher than the tensile stress（σs）at parts of a workpiece should be avoided.
