利用插入语、打乱句子顺序和倒装等方式，一方面可以使句式灵活多变，另一方面又能突出重点，给读者留下更深刻的印象。
（一） 插入语
所谓插入语，英语中有两种形式：一种是由两个逗号间隔的成分称之为插入语；第二种是由两个破折号间隔的成分称之为插入语。例如：
Ji'nan，the Spring City，is a famous tourist city．
Other people may give us instrumental support—financial aid，material resources，and needed services—that reduces stress by helping us resolve and cope with our problems．
插入语的作用主要有两个，其一突出主语，比如：He，who would like to play basketball，is a good student．其二解释说明，比如：People，especially students，should work hard．
另外，我们还可以把副词、连接词等作为插入语放在中间，一般放在主语、动词或助动词之后。“however，therefore，for example，I believe”等作为插入语放在主语、动词或助动词之后，前后分别加上逗号。例如：
Other individuals，however，take the attitude that．．．
因此，如果我们在四级作文中善于使用插入语，这将有助于改变句型，突出主语或对主语做进一步的说明，也能使句子更为简练。
（二） 副词或副词短语置于句首
副词或副词短语在句中作状语，表示时间、地点、方式等。副词短语还可以修饰整个句子，表示说话人对话语的态度和看法。一般而言，副词或副词短语都和动词放在一起。但有时为了更进一步强调副词所要表达的意义，可将副词或副词短语前置，以此加强语气，强化动作发生的程度或结果。试比较：
She remembered that she had forgotten her book the moment she stepped off the train．
As she stepped off the train，she remembered that she had forgotten her book．
（三） 将不定式短语置于句首
不定式短语一般置于谓语动词之后作宾语补足语，但有时为了凸显其所表达的效果，也可以前置。试比较：
To learn more about word processing，Professor Wang has bought a dozen books on computer．(www.xing528.com)
Professor Wang has bought a dozen books on computer to learn more about word processing．
（四） 倒装
倒装是写作中需要用到的。虽然略显俗套，但是很能满足阅卷人的主观感受。作文中常用的倒装形式有以下几种。
1．Only+时间状语
Only when all of us join in the efforts of eliminating cheating at all levels can we expect to have a cleaner society and a more beautiful future．
2．Only+介词词组
Only by planning his time carefully can he improve efficiency and make achievements．
Only in this way can we master the writing skills step by step．
3．一些否定词或带有否定意义的词语位于句首（hardly．．．when；never；not only．．．but also；seldom；little；few等）
Seldom in my life have I met such a kind-hearted man．
Hardly had we started when it began to rain．
Little did I think that he could be back alive．
4．地点方位的介词短语或副词位于句首
In no other place in the world can one find such enthusiasm for applying for hosting the 2008 Olympic Games．
