学生和家长对阅读的反馈与小说和其他文学体裁的差异

There is a distinct difference between reading novels and reading other genres of literature.Novels open up a new world of imagination where the reader is able to hop on a dream boat and sail across foreign seas, looking into the thoughts and feelings of another character's life.It creates space for innovation, empathy and critical thinking.

When I was a little girl,I loved unraveling the mysteries hidden behind stories and was fascinated with all the unique personalities that characters would possess.Reading novels swooped me away into a utopian realm where I took control of every image that was molded in my head.As I grew up,I started developing profound interest for novels about finding self-identity as a woman surrounded by mixed cultures.Through these readings,I discovered a community that I strongly resonated with personally and gradually became to understand how I can fit into this society we live in.Nowadays I am so fond of novels that depict lives that are wildly different from my own.By putting myself in other characters'shoes,I try to comprehend the author's intention behind creating these figures.I also enjoy looking into the art of the language the author uses and how that differs when the author writes from a gender opposite from their own.

I have the greatest passion towards reading novels as they are an excellent pass time but also a device for thinking.Thinking about our own lives, other people's lives and how our different lives are all intertwined in this world.

Nancy(李光楠)started to read English books at very young age.Oxford reading tree is one of the best reading programs that has inspired Nancy to learn to read and love to read. All the series of books with well-loved characters and varied writing styles gave Nancy everything she needs to become a confident reader.

Reading English fictions brought Nancy to new horizon. It helped Nancy to have a better insight into the world, stimulated her curiosity and opened her mind to different cultures. We encourage her to read wide range of fictions, from masterpiece to contemporary novels.Nancy was also a good writer.I would say that her writing style somehow has reflected the reading material she has enjoyed.

Reading English fictions has become part of Nancy's daily life. She always has a book to read on the train or on the plane.Reading gave her inner peace, helped her to stay more focused and keep creativity.

Reading literature for the past three years had equipped me with strong comprehensive skills that had prepared for the extensive reading in my current study in America.Compared to other reading sources like articles or short stories, books can provide the reader with a stream of thoughts that the author want to address throughout the characterization and the crafting of the plot.I am always marveled by the language on the literary level, feeling completely immersed in the character's world. The themes are always uplifting and through careful character analyses,it's intriguing to see how they had changed by the course of the storyline. In the meantime, reading through the chapters with consistent curiosity and determination could be a challenge especially for beginners,as I always see myself as a learner to this language reading-and-writing-wise.I often had to motivate myself to keep reading in order to have a better grasp of the story's recurring theme and the intricate language. As a result, after a process of selfchallenging, happiness is fulfilled when I looked back and realized my takeaway is something that I can never learn from a regular English class. The reading, along with a wide range of creative-writing and improve performing had largely contributed to the improvement of my reading comprehension and consistency, while helping build up my vocabularies and apply the language as a native speaker.Consequently, this had prepared me readily for further academic readings and analytical writings in my high school, which I deeply appreciated and would recommend my peers to do the same.

Rock(祝玄驰)hasn't engaged in a lot of English readings before his first novel assigned by his English class,Holes. That was in Grade 7.Since then, under the reading guidance and assignment,he started to read English novels and has become interested in it.

Rock has paid lots of attention to the reading assignment from his class, which is different from recreational reading. He has learnt largely from the language appeared in novels and has been able to apply them better through the exercises in class. The in-class discussion and handouts really helped his comprehensive understanding and critical thinking.Through class exercises and presentations,he's enjoyed acting so much and learnt how to convey his idea to classmates, which improved his confidence in speaking and listening. With more readings and practice,he could also summarize in simpler terms and this contributed to the formation of English logic in his mind. With no doubt—Reading is not only beneficial to widen his horizon but also helpful to master the language.Rock has been a great success through continuous English reading inclass.

The reading definitely ignites his interest towards English literature. As the first few books he read brought him big improvements in reading comprehension and vocabulary,he gets to feel the empathy with the author more when he really begins to read for fun.Rock has been insisting on English reading since Grade 7.In addition to novels, nowadays he reads more newspapers and commentaries online from NY Times and the Economist to enrich his knowledge and further interest.Through readings,Rock has gained a lot of positive energy and learnt to be a passionate and self-motivated person to influence people around.

I began to read English novels when I was in second grade.Reading English novels was an enjoyable experience to me when I was little, because it was quite different and exciting to me to read something in English. When I read English novels,I used to focus on the plots and the funny phrases the writer used. But the reading we are doing in our English class now is totally different, and I enjoy it more.(www.xing528.com)

When we read a book in class,we discuss characters and their family background so we can know better what the characters are like and understand their behavior in the book.I've never done things like these before.I just often flipped through the story. But analyzing the characters'personalities can help me improve my understanding of them better, which helps me to put myself in their worlds,to see what they see,and to feel what they feel.Besides,in reading group,it's helpful to be able to discuss the book with peers and see what others think. It helps me a lot and it's a lot of fun.

I enjoy novel reading in class.

Stella(胡心月)started to read English novels almost the same time when she started to learn English.I believe meaningful context is the key to learning a language well and reading novels are interesting and definitely meaningful contexts for the words.

She started her novel reading with Magic Tree House,of which all the books are imitative, interesting and a lot of fun.Once she picked up a book, she could hardly put it down before she finished it.When she finished reading all the books in this series, she was able to read more books for children. The previous reading experience helps build a solid basis for her further learning;it also helps her become more confident in learning English;what's more,it helps her to know more about the world.

It is very lucky for her that she can continue to read English novels when she is in junior high. She loves the books her teacher shares with the class and enjoys the process her teacher guides them to read, such as analyzing the characters, group discussion, journals, etc. She thinks it's beneficial to her reading skills and hopes to read more books in the coming year.

Reading is a very special and substantial activity.I like reading because it improves my English and is also a great pastime.Through reading English books,I have built up my vocabulary and improved my reading comprehension and grammar. It is also a good thing to do when I'm bored. Now I would like to share my experience in reading to you.

There are many kinds of genres of books to choose from, and I like mystery books. Why?You may ask.Well that is because, when reading it,I have to think.I solve the problems in math stories, and try to predict the endings in detective stories.I love thinking and reasoning,so I think mystery books are perfect for me.My favorite book is The Complete Sherlock Holmes.I started reading Chinese versions of little stories of Sherlock Holmes when I was grade 3.I continue to read them till now that I switched to the original English book written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This book witnessed and accompanied me growing up.And now, reading the original doesn't seem boring and dull at all.It seems very interesting, since I have read it before and it was a part of my childhood.

I still keep my passion for mystery novels, and will continue reading them.Reading sharpens my mind, makes me smarter, and even improves my math in a very relaxing way.

And that is my experience in reading.I would also strongly recommend you to start reading if you are not already doing so.

Reading has been a very important part of Henry's life.We as a family have moved a lot over the past ten years, from the US to Hong Kong of China, then from Hong Kong to Beijing. We have also traveled to quite a number of cities around the world during holidays and school breaks.Henry(钱致和)has probably traveled more extensively than most kids of his age, which gives him exposure to different people, culture, history, landscape, even ways of education. This could potentially create a bit of confusion and anxiety to a young boy in his early and formative years.Luckily,no matter where he is,Henry has one thing constant in his life, and that is his reading.

Henry has read a lot and on a variety of topics in both Chinese and English. His favorite, however,is math books, puzzles, and detective stories. In his early days at primary school,he was fascinated by“think-out-of-box”puzzles and would quiz his family members at dinner table. He really enjoyed it when he shared the correct answers, after we tried and failed.Later on,he became obsessed with the Sherlock Holmes kids book series in Chinese. For several years, the most important thing to Henry is the publication of the latest edition.Ever since he started reading the original books in his English class,he has been enjoying them.

Henry likes to think while reading. He often asks questions about what heis reading. Many times those are not simple ones of“what”or“who”,but“why”and“what if”.As a parent,I am quite encouraged by his questions. For Henry, reading is an important way of learning.
