所谓分句法是指把原文的一个简单句译成两个或两个以上的句子。
（1）词语的扩展
翻译时可将英语中作定语的单个形容词、副词、名词等扩展翻译成单句。
例1：I am perfectly willing to pay a reasonable price.
译文：如果价格合理，我很愿意出钱。（把形容词译成条件句）
例2：Their perfect service made the trade fair very successful.
译文：他们的服务很完美，这使本展销会非常成功。（把名词译成句子）
例3：The maximum demand for electricity today is expected to double within a decade.
译文：可以预料，目前对电的最大需求量在十年内有望增加一倍。（把单句译成两个句子）
（2）短语的扩展
为了使译文符合汉语的语法规范，翻译时可以将英语中作宾语、定语、状语等的名词短语、不定式短语、分词短语、介词短语等进行扩展，译成单句。
例1：We are disappointed at the buyer’s disregard for proper international trading rules.
译文：买方无视正当的国际贸易法则，对此我们很失望。（把介词短语译成句子）
例2：We find both quality and price of your products satisfactory and enclose our trial order for prompt supply.
译文：我们对你方产品的质量和价格均感满意，现寄去试订单，请供应现货。（把介词短语译成句子）
例3：We hope you will favor with your orders，which shall have our best attention to give you entire satisfaction.(www.xing528.com)
译文：希望贵公司给予我们惠顾。对此，我们必尽最大的努力，务必使贵公司满意。（把非限制性定语从句译成句子）
（3）句子的扩展
句子的扩展是把原文的一个句子拆开，译成两个或两个以上的句子。
例1：The process of cooperation began in the 1950s with the initiation of our commercial relations with Japan.
译文：这种合作进程始于20世纪50年代，最早是与日本建立的贸易关系。
例2：It is our constant endeavor to make our service as nearly perfect as possible，and no mistake is too small to receive our closest attention.
译文：使我们的服务尽可能完善是我们一贯的努力方向。任何错误，不管多么微小，我们都会给予最密切的关注。
例3：This national event is held biennially and attracts speech-language therapists working in education and health systems as well as private enterprises.
译文：该国家盛会每两年举办一次。该会吸引了工作在教育健康系统和私营企业的语言治疗师们前来参会。
例4：The exhibit area is always a bustling marketplace for the latest and most innovative products and technologies in neuroscience.
译文：该展区一直是一个热闹的交易场所，展品包括神经科学领域最新、最有创新性的产品和技术。
例5：卓越不是一门技巧，而是一种态度。
译文：Excellence is not a skill.It is an attitude.
